Mariam is currently completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. She is doing her practicum at Supportive Family Services under the supervision of Patricia A. Weinberg.

Mariam completed her Bachelor of Science major in Early Childhood Education at the University of Guelph, and holds a diploma in Advanced Studies in Special Needs from Humber College.

Mariam has over 15 years of experience working with school boards wearing many hats to support students and families with diverse needs. The combination of the role as an early childhood educator and a resource facilitator has provided her with an opportunity to help students succeed in their education and teach them the skills and concepts that are crucial for their future success. Assisted parents and families to accomplish unattainable goals and provided strategies to support their children’s and youth’s challenging behaviour, built a positive relationship, and provided tools to deal with challenging social situations.

Mariam is a very spiritual person and volunteer service for the community is her passion. She has helped families and children to improve their lives by developing and facilitating many mindfulness-based projects. These projects provided individuals with a safe and non-judgmental space, where they experienced how to accept their feelings with the focus on their strengths, and validation of their emotions.

Mariam’s love of child psychology, compassion, and therapeutic relationship with families started a collaborative journey towards counselling and psychotherapy. Her therapy approach supports individuals to cope during challenging life circumstances, where they can shift the focus from destructive thinking and feel rejuvenated. She engages individuals with their potential, which can empower them to escape from negative thought patterns and transform them into a healthier person. She believes in behavioural therapy, strength-based, and person-centred counselling approach.

As a culturally diverse therapist in training (intern) Mariam’s focus is to provide a safe and comfortable environment to the individuals she works with. Many challenges of life can be accomplished through therapy, such as having parenting guilt, worrying about your successful future, having excessive fear in accomplishing life’s goals, youth’s challenging behaviours, and having fear for your and your child’s healthy life. As it is said “you are always one step away from changing your life” let me help you overcome this journey of your life goals through the thinking process and reduce anxiety with coping strategies. Let’s make your wellness a priority, bring positive change in your life by choosing the healing path to cure your mind, body, and soul.
